Tottenham’s Misery Deepens in 3-2 Everton Thriller
Everton stunned Tottenham Hotspur with a 3-2 victory on Sunday, 19 January, handing David Moyes his first win since returning as manager.
The eventful match took place at Goodison Park Stadium in Liverpool, England, with a disastrous first-half defence from Spurs that saw the hosts score three times.
Toffees forward, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, finally ended a 16-game goal drought; his team-mate, Iliman Ndiaye, added a thunderous second; and Archie Gray accidentally turned the ball into his own net.
Tottenham showed some fight later on, as Dejan Kulusevski chipped in a classy finish and former Everton striker, Richarlison, poked home a stoppage-time goal. However, their second-half rally fell short, leaving them winless in five league games and just eight points above the relegation zone.
Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou, grappling with a depleted squad and growing pressure, acknowledged his side’s defensive frailties and lack of control. Meanwhile, Moyes praised Everton’s spirited performance, although he admitted they could have scored more.
Visiting fans have lost their patience with chairman Daniel Levy, as chants of “We want Levy out” echoed from the away end long before the final whistle. For the north London club, who have struggled for consistency all season, the loss raised serious concerns about their direction under Postecoglou.
Everton, on the other hand, will hope this morale-boosting result sparks a turnaround in their campaign.
